MAINE-LY DELIGHTS: The History
Our Humble
Beginnings.....
Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Karen Holmes Godbout, owner and operator of
Maine-ly Delights.  I moved to my little Maine cottage in 1978.  You may be shocked to hear
that I was not born and raised here on Mt. Desert Island; however, my family members
certainly are true Down Easters.

After living on the island for a while, I noticed that the boaters and the Marina workers had
to drive or walk a measurable distance for a bite to eat or a snack.  I thought it would be
nice to have a small hot dog stand.  Well, the more I thought about it, the more I liked the
idea.

I bought a large panel step van and after a few conversations, began selling steamed hot
dogs, chips, canned soda and my famous crab rolls.  Gradually, I added some
necessities, such as electricity, a refrigerator, a hot dog steamer, and later, a fryolator.
The fryolator was a big hit for french fries and my famous, original, Oh-Boy Doughboys.
After a few years and many new friends, I was outgrowing the old truck.  It was time to go
on to bigger and better things.  In July, 1984, the new Maine-ly Delights opened. I finally
had a roof over my head and cement under my feet. I had made it!

I am quaint, not fancy, Down East all the way.  My menu is composed of "the best"
ingredients with the freshest seafood available.  I like giving that extra personal touch with
a smile, a story, and a laugh or two.  I guess you can say that I enjoy people.  Above all, I
like to make them good, Down East cooking.
